Original Show: RTHK Radio 3’s Backchat, “Sino-US Relations”, Nov 5, 2018
On Monday’s Backchat, we are discussing US-China relations. After Presidents Trump and Xi had a ‘good conversation’ on the phone on Thursday, they plan to meet at the G20 Summit in late November, and to resolve their differences on bilateral trade. The Asian market was an optimistic sea of green on Friday; though others point to long term conflict and even a second cold war. Are the US midterm elections playing a part in this negotiation? Are you feeling positive about upcoming talks between both leaders? What about other issues – military tension, Taiwan, human rights, industrial espionage? Is America right to ask China to behave like a ‘normal nation’?
